Birch & Alder is a microbakery restaurant in Indian, Alaska, nestled among the trees along the scenic Seward Highway. We are obsessed with the quality of every element that goes into what we create for you. Our menu is a healthy balance of the best ingredients presented in a playful yet meaningful way. We source as much as we can from Alaskan ranchers, farmers, fishers, foragers, coffee roasters, and all who celebrate the beautiful bounty of the Dena’ina land. We will fill your senses with lovingly prepared food and beautiful scenery, and promise an experience you can only find right here.

Hours: Summer hours are 8am to 2pm Wednesday through Sunday (closed Mon/Tues).

We do drive-thru differently. Think slow-food served fast. Fresh breads, bagels, and pastries baked daily. Sandwiches and healthy options you can feel good about. Nothing processed or pre-made, no shortcuts, and no excessive packaging. We serve in a way that considers our fragile environment, using biodegradable no-tree cups, and plastic-free containers. We believe you shouldn’t have to sacrifice quality and good conscience for convenience.

We are a husband and wife team, Chef Reuben and Christina Gerber. We opened Birch & Alder in 2022, channeling years in fine-dining to create a drive-thru experience for those who love high-quality food prepared with precision and passion. Our vision of serving the community extends beyond the plate. Our kitchen is a place for like-minded culinary artists to come together to learn, to teach, to grow, and also to show our guests that there is a different way of doing things; a more conscious approach to food.
